War and Technology

Human conflict has been the driving force for civilization.

The need to evolve new and better weapons has spurred innovation from the stone age on.
Technological superiority has been the decisive factor in many encounters. The military historian can point to instances of this throughout the centuries: the long bow in Europe, the horse in China, guns in the settlement of the Americas, and the atom bomb to finalize the war with Japan.

Today we are faced with technological weaponry, that can not only kill, but also invade our personal space. In times of peace, we cherish our privacy, we assume that no one is eavesdropping on our phone calls or intercepting our emails.

Today with packet sniffing technology, everyone's privacy is compromised. Data acquisition programs such as Carnivore search & meta-tag key words and phrases.

Aviation using synthetic aperture imaging can pin point in three dimensions any location on earth, and with active imaging can even peer into buildings. (Older active imaging techniques such as radar and sonar relied on frequencies that did not give as fine a detail)

Anyway, if you have read & understood some of the above, take a look at the Public Domain information on these related topics of robust, distributed communications, UWF allocations and use by the military.

The news agency CNN reported on Sept. 15/01 that: "The Washington Post reports the Federal Aviation Administration alerted the national military air defense command that a hijacked jet was hurtling toward the Pentagon 12 minutes before the plane hit, but apparently no one relayed that message to Pentagon security so they didn't evacuate building."
